Don’t skim the best
We are blessed to live in an age with an amazing array of books, Bible studies, online studies and devotionals to assist us in our faith-walk. I am so grateful God has placed teachers in the body of Christ. Pastors, Bible teachers, scholars, and writers can give clarity and truth to help us in our growth as Christians.
Iron sharpens iron, and how grateful I am for those who sharpen me deeper into God and His Word. I love reading an author who sees something in scripture and with the Holy Spirit’s guidance can point us to see things with fresh eyes.
Unfortunately when reading, I’m embarrassed I’ve often caught myself skimming through familiar verses to read what the author has written. However, I don’t need to stop reading other authors or listening to pastors or Bible teachers, I need to be careful not to skim over the best. God’s word, His words are the only words that truly bring life, they are the BEST words.
Goodness, I want to remember to pay the utmost attention to scripture. Then, I can enjoy the blessings of mining God’s truth with my brothers and sisters in Christ. God’s word is a treasure chest filled with heavenly wisdom jewels, and there is nothing more exciting than discovering God’s best.
Let’s continue listening, reading, and growing but never skim over God’s best.
Heavenly Father, help Your word pop and highlight on every page I read and pop in my mind on every sermon and Bible study talk I hear. I want Your word to be the most important words in my life. I love You, Father!
“When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.” ~ Jeremiah 15:16 (NLT)
“The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” ~ Psalm 119:160 (NASB)
“Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.” ~ Psalm 119:11 (NASB)
“How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” ~ Psalm 119:103 (NKJV)
