Anointed to…
As Jesus’ ministry began, He stood in the temple and read from Isaiah, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).
When I read these verses, there is a jump in my spirit, because the words that Jesus shared are a call for us as Christ followers. When we become Christians, Jesus comes and lives in our hearts. Therefore, the anointing Jesus received is passed on to us to preach the gospel, to proclaim release to those held captive by sin, recovery of sight to those blinded by the enemy, and to point others to Christ who sets free those who are oppressed. As Christ followers, we have a calling and an anointing.
Peter tells us we are a royal priesthood to proclaim the excellencies of God who called us out of darkness into light. Through Christ, we are anointed to light the world with His light. Oh, the thrill of being a Christian!
Jesus tells us “anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works.” Wow! The Spirit of the living God breathes His life within us to share His life with a lost world. We are anointed and unlimited by our limitless God.
You have a beautiful, wonderful, anointed calling. Therefore, tell others about Christ and shine His light!
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” ~ Isaiah 61:1-3 (NASB)
“…you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” ~ 1 Peter 2:9 (NASB)
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” ~ Matthew 5:14-15 (NASB)
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.” ~ John 14:12 (NLT)
