Storm comfort
Overwhelmed with sadness for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. My family is in the Houston area, so many friends are there, so much heartache and pain. I’m praying and running to God’s word for comfort in His love and mercy.
You too may be overwhelmed. Oh friend, even when terrible things happen, even when the flood of life overwhelms, God’s mercies and comfort are there. God will not forsake you, He will not leave you, He will walk with you through the trials and suffering, and His love will safely carry you close to His heart.
“Hear my cry, O God; give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Stretch forth Your hand from on high; rescue me and deliver me out of great waters… He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.” ~ Psalm 61:1-2 (NASB), Psalm 144:7 (NASB), 2 Samuel 22:17 (NKJV)
“Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you…. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~ Psalm 91:14-15 (NASB), Isaiah 43:2 (NASB), Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is safe. Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.” ~ Proverbs 18:10 (NASB), Psalm 32:6-7 (NASB),
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I have hope in Him.’” ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NASB), Isaiah 40:11 (NIV), Lamentations 3:22-24 (NASB)
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ~ Romans 8:38-39 (NASB)
