No sugar-coated fluff
Sweet hubby and I were very proud of ourselves for eating healthy. Unfortunately, I quietly went to my office, shut the door, and ate a stash of candy. My body was not happy. The result? A sick stomach and regret at my failure. Ugh. I should have stayed with the healthy food groups.
Spiritually, I need protein. Sugar-coated fluff doesn’t feed my inner spirit. There’s nothing wrong with lighthearted reading, but to grow and stay spiritually healthy, I need proper spiritual food. When I’m in a battle, I need to read books that help me know how to battle. Saints who have gone before us, who lived in this embattled world, have left stories of their journey to help us along our journey.
The Word of God shows us how to wear spiritual armor and gives truth that sets us free. God’s word is fire and a hammer that shatters rock, burning away the lies of the enemy and shattering misconceptions and misinformation. His Word is living and active, sharper than a two-edged sword, getting to the heart of the matter to help our thoughts and hearts stand firm in every matter.
Are you feeling spiritually anemic? Put down sugar-coated fluff and pick up spiritual protein. Read books that bring you closer to God’s heart and help you grow and nurture your faith. Read God’s Word, let His words fill your body, mind, heart, and soul with His truth and the knowledge of His unfailing love, power, and might. Read and memorize God’s word, pray His word, and live in God’s Word, for His word is healing, restoration, strength, and life.
“’Is not My word like fire?’ declares the Lord, ‘and like a hammer which shatters a rock?’” ~ Jeremiah 23:29 (NASB)
“Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” ~ Proverbs 30:5 (NASB)
“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” ~ Hebrews 4:12 (NASB)
Jesus said, “It is written, ‘Man is not to live on bread only. Man is to live by every word that God speaks.’” ~ Matthew 4:4 (NLV)
