I busied myself during the day, praying and hoping God would download a marvelous devotion for me to share. I prayed, completed my Bible study, worked in the yard, cleaned house, cooked meals, prayed, stared at the computer, and still nothing came. My days were hit and miss with revelation of something worthy to share.

I kept wondering what was wrong. Had my calling as a writer changed? Was some sin in my life blocking the Holy Spirit? I prayed, begged, pleaded, repented, prayed, and still I seemed to be sputtering instead of moving forward.

Then I remembered the words that Paul had written to Timothy to “stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you.” Also to “study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.”

I needed to rekindle the embers and fan into flame to get my writing going again. Then I wondered what did I have for kindling? I gotta get the wood! Most of what I was doing was good, but I had missed a primary thing. I needed to get my tail in the chair and get to work. God has gifted me with the ability to write, but I have to use that ability and actually write. 

Ah, yes when you want to start a fire, ya gotta get the wood. I believe the Lord has called me to share His good news with others. However, thinking about doing something, praying about doing something, and actually doing something is very different. Prayer and Bible study are most important, but I also need to keep my fire burning, and do my best to present myself to God as His workman and use His gift by keeping my tail in my writing chair and writing.

We are all gifted by God, each of us are given gifts, talents, and blessings (see Romans 12:6-11 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-11). What has God called you to do? How has God gifted you? Use His gifts for His glory. Keep your fires burning by remembering to use the gifts He has given you.  😊
