The Light
Millions of stars shine in the heavens, their number beyond count, their brilliance beyond imagination. Unfortunately, the glaring lights of this world blocks our sight of the heavenly lights. We can’t see beyond the garish wattage of people’s attempt to light their own way and walk in their own light.
The enemy tries to distract us from our bright, pure, and holy God. Satan wants us to focus on evil, and if he can’t get us to focus on evil, he’ll try to distract us with something that seems good to keep us from the best. Many are like cats chasing a tiny red dot instead of pursuing the everlasting light of Christ.
I know, I’ve been like a kitty chasing after any shiny object that came into my path. I’ve been distracted, blinded by the enemy, and often have missed the beauty and brilliance of God’s best. Oh but how I want to step outside, outside of the rush, busyness, yelling, blaring and blinding of the world. Even if I can’t escape physically, I can always escape spiritually. God’s Word is a refuge, a place to still the soul, and get the soul refocused on God’s pure, bright, and holy truth.
For years, the verse in Psalm 94:19 brought comfort. “When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.” To be honest, I read the verse wrong for decades, I thought it was talking about constellations. I thought the scripture was about getting outside and seeing the beauty of God’s sky. Hey, it worked for me! 😊
No matter how distracting the world, the enemy, the busyness of life, God’s light continues to shine. Rejoice in His consolations and His constellations. Step away, step outside, turn your eyes to the heavens for God’s everlasting loving light always shines.
“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him?” ~ Psalm 8:3-4 (NASB)
“To Him who made the great lights, for His lovingkindness is everlasting: The sun to rule by day, for His lovingkindness is everlasting, the moon and stars to rule by night, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.” ~ Psalm 136:7-9 (NASB)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” ~ Psalm 119:105 (NASB)
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” ~ John 8:12 (HCSB)
