The Invitation
Oh how I wanted to talk to God, to share something deep in my heart, to find the reasons behind my anxious and troubled mind. I wanted to pray, but for some reason couldn’t find the words. I’ve had amazing times in prayer, but something blocked me, a hindrance that kept my soul from reaching out.
Then the Holy Spirit impressed on my soul to read a book on prayer by E.M. Bounds. A mighty man of prayer, I’ve read most of his books. I stopped into our church bookstore and on the shelf waited several I already have at home, but then I saw one, a big one (a 622 page book) I had not read. As I pondered whether or not to spend the money, the Lord reminded me He had given me provision.
I purchased the book, and I’m diving in deep to the beauty of prayer, the absolute amazing privilege and blessing of prayer. My soul is singing with joy. As I’m reading and taking notes, praying, enjoying being in the Lord’s presence, I realized that this drawing, the desire to be in communion with God, is actually His desire.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him….” ~ John 6:44 (NASB)
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you….” ~ James 4:8 (NASB)
The Father is the One drawing souls to Him. God is the One beckoning us deeper by making our souls desire Him deeper.
Prayer is a divine invitation to meet with The Divine.
E. M. Bounds wrote, “the heart leaps to meet with God.” Oh yes, my heart is leaping to meet with my Heavenly Father — wide open, full-abandoned, no agenda other than to meet with my God. Oh what joy! What total joy to be abandoned to God!
Do you have a desire to pray more, to commune with God? Those desires are God’s desires for you. God is calling to your soul to come meet with Him. He is drawing you close so that Your soul can find rest, peace, guidance, and joy in Him.
The Divine Invitation is addressed to you. “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” ~ Jeremiah 33:3 (NASB)
Will you come? Will you answer His invitation?
“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’” ~ Psalm 27:8 (NLT)
