The humble prayer of one

Posted on August 7, 2020 by Lisa BuffaloeAugust 31, 2020

“And when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to speak the Word of God with freedom and boldness and courage. . . . And with great strength and ability and power the apostles delivered their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus….” ~ Acts 4:31,33 (AMPC)

When I think of revival and the Holy Spirit falling, I think of many believers praying. “If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land” ~ 2 Chronicles 7:14 (AMPC)

Christmas Evans, a Welsh preacher in the late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth century, wrote in his diary… “One Sunday afternoon as I was traveling by horseback to an appointment. Suddenly as I went along a very lonely road, I was convicted of having a cold heart. I dismounted, tethered the horse to a tree, and found a secluded spot. Then, walking back and forth in agony, I reviewed my life. I waited before God in brokenness and sorrow for three hours. Finally, a sweet sense of His forgiving love broke over me, and I received a fresh filling of His Holy Spirit. …The following day I preached with so much new power, to a vast gathering of people on a hillside, that revival broke out and ultimately spread through all of Wales.”(1)

Far too often I forget the humble prayers of even one person is an incredible, mighty force. “…The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months.” ~ James 5:16-17 (AMPC)

Just one person humbling themselves before God, earnestly praying before God, can open the blessings of heaven for the Lord to move.

May each of us spend time with God, humble ourselves before God, and seek His face, turn from our wicked ways, and allow God’s Spirit to move in mighty ways.

Flying free

Posted on July 27, 2020 by Lisa BuffaloeJuly 27, 2020

I don’t know about you, but I’ve found there is a constant gravitational pull to the things of this earth. I catch myself worrying about what’s happening, so I’ll jump online to check social media or grab a few minutes of the news. Unfortunately, the more I am distracted by the world, the stronger the pull from the world and the more unrest in my soul.

Yet when I spend time with God in prayer, Bible study, or precious moments being still in God’s presence, the lighter and more free I feel. The less hold the earth, and the things of this earth, have as I spend time with the One who is life and feeds and nourishes my soul. Jesus promised, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:31-32, NASB). Christ is truth and He said it was for freedom that He set us free (Galatians 5:1).

As Christians, we are no longer earth bound. We are not of this world. God “made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:5-6, NASB). Therefore, “…keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:1-2, NASB) Flying free comes with an upward focus.

Another thing that helps is checking to see if how I’m spending my time will meet the criteria found in Psalm 19:14… “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.” I’m not flying free if what I’m talking about, and thinking about, do not honor God.

Even with all the worries and troubles of the world, Paul gives us a hope-filled, peace-giving reminder to “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things” (Philippians 4:6-8, NASB).

We have a choice where our thoughts go, and as Christians, we have the power of Christ within us to break free of the pull of the world. Fly free by focusing on Christ and the things above. And please keep telling others about our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ, who sets souls free from sin and death. Let’s fly free in Christ!
